Your hardscape and landscape design and construction

What new homeowners should know about their new landscape project:

  1. Most associations give from move-in to six months for completion of front yard landscape and from move-in to one year for completion of back and side yard landscaping.
  2. Depending on the project's size and complexity, the process of designing and submiting your plans can take from one week to three months.
  3. The plan can be drawn by the homeowner, a contractor, or an architect.
  4. You will need to submit at least 3 copies of your landscaping plan to your association committee.
  5. It could take from two weeks to 45 days for the committee to review and/or approve your plans.
  6. Many other factors contribute to determining your project's completion time-frame.

Among those to consider:

A. Budget:
How much do you want to invest?
How much do you have available for the project?
Do you need to borrow for the project?

B. Purpose:
Association??
If you don't have the funds for what you envision, yet you must complete the landscaping, submit simple plans and do what you can for now.
Your front yard requires your attention?
Lawn and plants will do.
Concrete patio, lawn and plants will work for the back yard.
Just wait...
Your investment will be very nice, but simple.
Be reasonable and keep your budget in mind.

C. Construction:
You have your plans and the association's approval now...
Do you have a builder?
Is that person available?

Please consult your homeowner's manual and association's guidelines.
